Backsplash is not something that happens in a pool

The past week or so has been a huge learning experience for me and Michael. We learned new terms like "backsplash" and "conforming loan," and we have been made to think we absolutely cannot live without an intercom in every room. I mean, really, how have we survived without it so far?! (Don't worry--we've drawn the line and won't be getting the central vacuum or video camera surveillance, although we were very tempted.)

We also learned that we should have bought a stamp with our signatures to sign all the documents necessary to purchase a home. We haven't even broken ground and already we have killed several trees by signing the preliminary paperwork. By the way, I asked the lender what happens to everything we sign, and he told me it gets shredded after settlement. What?!

Today we met with the lender and learned our credit scores. I was quite disappointed to learn my FICO score was 13 points lower than Michael's score. I have a feeling that Michael will not let me forget this. Luckily, we think Suze Orman would be proud of our scores and we should be getting great rates.

The next step is picking the tile and carpet. I can only hope this experience is easier than picking our china for our registry. Here's to purple carpet in my office! Go Cats! (Michael, I'm just kidding.)
