On the way to the store, my Ford Focus and I celebrated our 60,000th mile together.
Our appointment was at Peacemaker Floors with an incredibly patient woman named Lois. Lois explained the importance of soft padding. Then we tested nylons and polyesters, got a feel for continuous filament fiber, and learned about something called twist. We wanted to pick a neutral color that would work with any decorating we may choose to do later, and we were quite surprised to see how many variations exist of the color cream. To make an analogy, it is kind of like saying you want a white wedding dress, only to find there are about 100 different shades of white.
Thank you Mommy for consistently pulling the most expensive carpet samples. Haha.
After a few blind tests in our socks, we finally made a decision. For those of you keeping score at home, we decided on "White Smoke" carpet for the upstairs bedrooms. The runner for the stairs is "Moonbeam." To make it a little more exciting, we're thinking of adding a 3" border to the runner in a dark brown color called "Chocolate Cordial." I had to get chocolate in there somewhere! (The runner will be on both sides, of course. This is just a sample of how it may look.)
I tried very hard to push for the purple carpet, but Michael would have none of it. Oh well.
Like a good student, I took all my notes in my trusty notebook.
Finally, about 3 1/2 hours into the process, I looked around and noticed lots of blinds. To our surprise, we learned that Peacemaker can do blinds too! We're having it priced out right now, but below is the style we're thinking of getting. Yes, Heather, they are Hunter Douglas. :)
So there you have it. I must send a quick thank you to Laurie Romanoff for her fabulous advice on the entire carpet process!

I love that you did a blind sock test - so smart! I love the cream runner with chocolate border - looks chic and can be decorated around if necessary. Also, sounds delicious ;)
Also, to comment on your previous post - looks like you had a great birthday! Your family is so cute. I'm glad I'm not the only one who hangs out with my entire immediate family!
